I am an assistant professor of English at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. I research and teach 20th and 21st century American literature and culture, with particular interests in African American and ethnic American literature, social and environmental justice movements, the environmental humanities, and speculative fiction and film. I received my PhD in English from Duke University in 2016 and was an assistant professor in the Department of English at Winston-Salem State University from fall 2016 through spring 2020. I was a 2015-2016 Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellow; I also held a Mitchell J. Connell Foundation Fellowship at the Huntington Library in summer 2015, where I performed archival research in the Octavia E. Butler Papers, and held a lecturer position in the Department of English at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa from 2014-2015.
